How it works

Three steps from blank page to defended work.

1

Create your project

Sign up free, define your topic and institution, and Researchful scaffolds a research plan with milestones and chapter structure.

2

AI guides you

The Orchestrator routes work across six agents, surfacing the next-best action and enforcing integrity gates at every step.

3

Submit with confidence

Run a full integrity report, export to PDF or DOCX, and walk into your defense knowing every claim is sourced and every paragraph is yours.

Why Researchful

Production-grade features, not toy demos.

Every feature is built for real research workflows, with the integrity, security, and auditability your institution expects.

Source-bounded AI

Every factual AI output is grounded in sources you provide. Unsupported assertions are labeled, never hidden.

Effort Balance Index

A weighted measure of student vs AI contribution, displayed per chapter so your effort stays visible.

Contribution Labels

Each paragraph carries a label — AI-Assisted, Student-Authored, or Quoted — with conversion rules.

Mobile-native

Designed mobile-first with bottom tab navigation, thumb-zone reachability, and offline sync.

Auto-save & Undo

Every keystroke is auto-saved with version history. Restore any previous state in one tap.

Loading Skeletons

No spinners. Skeleton states preserve layout and reduce perceived load time.

Offline-friendly

Queue operations offline, sync when reconnected, with conflict resolution and sync banners.

Compliance Gates

Similarity, originality, bias, and fabricated-citation detection block finalization until integrity passes.

5 Citation Styles

APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, and IEEE — auto-generated and synced to in-text references.

PDF & DOCX Export

Print-ready exports with covers, TOC, figures, and bibliography in your institution template.

Collaboration

Share with supervisors and peers, leave inline comments, and track resolved threads.

Audit Trail

Every agent action is logged with timestamp, input hash, and output hash. Reviewable end-to-end.

Student voices

What students and supervisors say.

Researchful changed how I approached my final-year project. The Research Agent helped me find sources I never would have discovered, and the effort-balance index kept my supervisor confident the work was mine.
Aisha Bello
BSc Computer Science
Ahmadu Bello University
The compliance agent caught a citation I had fabricated by accident. That alone saved my defense. I cannot imagine writing another research paper without Researchful.
David Okafor
MSc Data Science
University of Lagos
As a supervisor, the audit trail is everything. I can see exactly which paragraphs my student wrote, which were AI-assisted, and which sources back each claim. It rebuilt my trust in student AI use.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is using AI for research considered cheating?

It depends on how you use it. Researchful is built on the principle that AI should empower your effort, not replace it. The effort-balance index, contribution labels, and compliance gates ensure your intellectual work remains central and visible. Every paragraph is labeled — AI-Assisted, Student-Authored, or Quoted — and your supervisor can see exactly what you wrote.

Can my supervisor see what was AI-generated?

Yes. Every paragraph carries a contribution label, and the full audit trail records which agent touched what, when, and with what input. You can export an integrity report alongside your final submission that documents your effort-balance ratio and the sources behind every claim.

Does Researchful write the entire paper for me?

No. The Drafting Agent is effort-locked: it expands your bullet points into paragraphs rather than generating chapters from a prompt. You provide the structure, the argument, and the interpretation. The AI helps you articulate, never replaces your thinking.

What citation styles are supported?

APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, and IEEE. Citations are auto-generated from your ResearchLib sources and synced to your in-text references. You can switch styles at any time and the entire bibliography regenerates instantly.

Is my data private and secure?

Yes. We use enterprise-grade encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Your projects are scoped to your account and never shared without explicit permission. We are GDPR-compliant and never sell your data. You can export and delete your data at any time.

Can I use Researchful offline?

Yes. The mobile apps and PWA support offline mode with queued operations. You can write, take notes, and annotate sources offline. When you reconnect, changes sync automatically with conflict resolution and sync banners.
